January 2010 Combined YM/YW Rap Night

There were 5 groups. After being assigned a theme, each group had to make up rap lyrics and perform them for everyone else! We've got some MAD talent!!!

Today...Linzy, Hayley,Nikki ,and guy friend, Ben, are coming for Thanksgiving. Its so wonderful to have family gather... So many things to be thankful for... good food, and playing hard.

Klondike Derby 2009

Klondike Derby 2009 was held on February 13th and 14th. The leaders and boys had a great time and actually stayed pretty warm (the leaders slept in their trucks :). David Ivins brought up cedar posts and straw to build the snow structure. Once the boys had the posts braced on one another they laid tarps across the top and packed snow on top of the tarps. They laid straw on the snow inside the shelter and "slept like babies" as was reported. Devin Lyman made the comment that he wanted to move in the shelter and live there. On Saturday they had snow shoe and sled races and everyone lived, although one of the scouts worked so hard he got sick for a bit. Bishop Lyman and Brother Bethea went up Saturday morning to cook breakfast and work (play) with the boys. David Ivins and Dane Lyman were the brave leaders that stayed over night and most of these boys are looking forward to next years event.

The Stake has updated the 2009 stake calendar. If you have not signed on to the lds.com Ward Web site before, you should try it. It is a great tool! You can learn the times and places of meetings that you are supposed to attend. You can schedule the building, get phone numbers and email addresses of other registered ward and stake members, post activities to our ward calendar (after aproval), and send group emials to ward groups (i.e. High Priests, Relief Society, All Ward Members, etc.). This is a secure site and requires a login name and password. If you have created one but have forgotten it, I may be able to help you track it down. New users need thier record number and confirmation date to create an account. As more people get used to using this resource, it will become a great tool to communicate important information within our ward and stake. Scout campout

The young men enjoyed an overnight camp out this past weekend with the
Bishopric and some of their dads. There were only a few shots taken before the camera battery died so just imagine a bunch of rowdy boys (mostly Deacons), some paintball guns, LOTS of dutch oven potatoes (eaten in haste and scraped down to the last crumb), and a big fire to try and keep warm. From what we heard, the deacons stayed up ALL night, much to the dismay of the tired Priests, and they were still able to make it up San Juan Hill on their hike the next day.

Ward Scripture Carnival

We had a very fun Ward Scripture Carnival this year. The youth and the activity committee set up booths for all ages to enjoy. Many came in Scripture attire and many as modern day Saints. We appreciate all of the work that was put into this fun activity and hope you enjoy some of the pictures from the night.

Bobbing for apples was one of the biggest hits.

Some of the children collected as many apples as their bags or pockets would carry.

The cake walk was another fun station. The kids thought that had hit the jackpot when they were allowed to "win" more than one cupcake. This lion from Daniel's Den waits to pounce on one.

All sorts of animals came from Noah's ark.

Scripture bingo was fun because you were able to eat the pieces as you played.

Soggy costumes were seen after bobbing for apples was enjoyed.

The prizes were fun for the kids. Both candy and toys.

Primary Activity

Our theme in Primary this year is "I am a Child of God". We decided to have an activity where each child in our primary could show what makes them special. The talents ranged from playing the violin to hopping on one foot, and everyone who participated was marvelous. We have also been working on bringing our scriptures to primary to "show Heavenly Father that we are ready to learn", and the kids earned NINE scoops of ice-cream. WAY TO GO PRIMARY! We love these kids and wanted to share with you some of the fantastic talents that make them A Child of God.
